I am probably not as deeply rooted in healthcare and the healthcare community as most everyone else here, but I do not see a lot of attention being paid to disparities right now. This is concerning to me as we are starting to talk a lot about heal...

I was actually thinking of mashing up your avatars into a picture of the two of you. However, like you pointed out, you will want to have consistent branding of the group as it grows. And, using your personal pictures in the avatar just might alie...

You mean, we can't just have a picture of us together as the icon? :-) We can think of one soon and upload it. We can always change it, but if we start to brand this way it will be good to keep it consistent. Another point to think on amongst the ...

Hello, Joe/MedXCommunity Of course, my recurring theme is the reach of our conversation and framing of this thing called cultural competency. With the risk of seemingly shameless self promotion, my re-released white paper, Diversity, Disease Mana...

I am a leadership and organizational development consultant specializing in the areas of: diversity, inclusion, innovation and leadership (which I believe are all closely connected). Prior to starting my own consultancy, I worked as the Diversity Director for a large healthcare system in the Midwest. And prior that I was Program Director for the National Conference for Community and Justice.

About a third of my work consists of providing and / or building training for organizations, another third consists of doing my own open enrollment workshops, which have done in about 15 different locations now and the other third consists of speaking at conferences, summits and similar events.

Disparities and Leadership

Admitting that we have a problem is the first step towards recovery.

I have been talking and writing a lot lately about a new way of leadership. I think that we are seeing a lot of evidence that the way we do leadership is inadequate. We simply deserve better. This is no big secret as there is a great deal of writing, talking, buzz-wording, best-practicing and shouting about innovation today. Innovation is also coming to be viewed as increasingly important to education, non-profit and government entit… Continue

Bad economy? Retain your talent! Inclusive organizational culture now more important than ever...

As we continue to get unpleasant economic news and predictions, more and more leaders and organizations are starting to think seriously about the actions they can take to be more financially resilient in the coming year. I have written before about how and why diversity and inclusion represent great value to organizations, and i… Continue
