Why Fi-Med?

Other medical billing companies focus on technology, still others focus on people. But no other medical billing and financial management firm can provide the unique combination of skilled specialists and top technology that Fi-Med can. Our certified, experienced, thoroughly-trained coding and compliance officers are experts at what they do, and get to know your practice inside and out. Armed with the same cutting-edge technology that powers large medical facility accounting teams, we level the playing field between independent physicians and insurance companies.

For groups, labs, surgical centers and hospitals, we act as your comprehensive in-house team - freeing up your staff, space and budget for other important projects. We’ve won numerous small business awards, including the exciting Inc 5000 in 2008, and we’ve been growing the Fi-Med family for more than 15 years.

Checking In From The Road To ICD-10--Paul Spencer, CPC, CPC-H

I bid you all Friday greetings from suburban Atlanta.

I'll share the reasons for this week's appearance being from Georgia momentarily, but being on the literal road during what will be my last vacation stop of the year reminds me of another figurative road I currently find myself upon as a coder; the road to the implementation of ICD-10 as the reporting standard for diagnosis and symptomology reporting.

In a little under four years, ICD-9 will be a thing of the past. Replacing it will be a co… Continue

The Riddle Of "Meaningful Use" Soon To Be Defined--Paul Spencer, CPC, CPC-H

Mankind, being the one member of the animal kingdom capable of rational thought, has left behind many written documents of the quest for answers and definitions to questions relating to its existence. Despite centuries of thought, many questions still remain, such as:

Where did that sock disappear to from the laundry?
Where did they get the cream for the coconut cream pies on "Gilligan's Island"?
If the afterlife is the perfect place, why do so many people dislike harp music?
This is my short l… Continue

A Signature Makes It Count --Paul Spencer, CPC, CPC-H

Next to me on my desk is my wallet (I see you coming up behind me - BACK OFF!). I'm reaching in and randomly pulling out four items. First, there's my driver's license (the fact that I have one that has yet to be revoked will probably come as a shock to those who have actually seen me drive). On the bottom left hand corner of my license is my signature, making it official.

Next comes my bank-issued debit card. Turning it over, I again note my signature, allowing me to complete purchases out in… Continue

PDSA (Plan, Do, Study, Act)

There has been quite a bit of interest surrounding Frank Cohen’s webinars and so I would like to tell you about the next one he has scheduled for Thursday, June 18th, from 1:00-2:00pm EDT. What I like about these webinars is how current and practical the topics are. I also appreciate Frank’s ability to make even the most complex topics relatively easy to understand, and at no charge they are a great value! I would recommend attending the webinar live so that you can participate in Q. and A. but… Continue

Coding for the Non-Coder

For over 30 years, Frank Cohen has worked as a health care data analyst, knowledge engineer and consultant. He has written many books and is the Senior Analyst for MIT Solutions. I have attended several of Franks webinars, which are scheduled 3-4 times a month, covering such topics as coding, code and modifier utilization, cost accounting, work RVUs, etc. This is a great resource that I want to share with all of you and best of all it’s free! Here is a brief intro to one of his webinars that I p… Continue
